Patra Pinda Sweda (Leaf Bolus Fomentation)
This is a Ruksha–Snigdha Swedana (dry–unctuous sudation) therapy where medicinal leaves of Eranda (Ricinus communis), Tamarindus indica, and Nirgundi (Vitex negundo) are fried in herbal oil, tied into boluses (Kizhis), and massaged over the body. It is indicated in conditions dominated by Vata and Kapha dosha.
Sanskrit:
पत्रपिण्डस्वेद (Patra Pinda Sweda)
Physiological Action (Kriya):
The combination of heat (Ushna Guna) and oil (Snigdha Guna) induces perspiration, helping in Amapachana (removal of toxins) and Srotoshodhana (cleansing of body channels). It alleviates stiffness, reduces inflammation, and improves neuromuscular function.
Indications:
- Osteoarthritis (Sandhigata Vata)
- Cervical and lumbar spondylosis
- Frozen shoulder, sports injuries
- Muscular stiffness, sciatica
Benefits:
- Relieves pain and inflammation
- Improves joint mobility and flexibility
- Strengthens muscles and nerves
- Promotes circulation and metabolism
