Kati Vasti (Lumbar Oil Retention Therapy)
Kati Vasti is a localized Snehana–Swedana therapy where warm medicated oil is retained over the lumbar region within a dough boundary. It targets Vata dosha located in the Kati Pradesh (lower back) and Asthi–Majja Dhatus.
Sanskrit:
कटिवस्ति (Kati Vasti)
Physiological Action (Kriya):
The retained oil penetrates deep into the tissues, improving intervertebral lubrication and relieving muscle spasm. It supports spinal alignment and improves Apana Vata function.
Indications:
- Lumbar spondylosis, sciatica
- Chronic lower back pain
- Intervertebral disc prolapse
Benefits:
- Relieves back pain and stiffness
- Strengthens spinal muscles and joints
- Improves posture and flexibility
- Nourishes vertebral structures
