Dhoomapānam (Medicated Inhalation Therapy)

Sanskrit: 

Dhooma means smoke and Pānam means inhalation — inhaling medicated herbal smoke for therapeutic purposes.

Ayurvedic Principle: 

A Śamana (pacifying) and Sodhana (purificatory) procedure primarily used for Urdhvajatrugata Roga (diseases above the clavicle). It helps balance Kapha and Vāta doshas.

Procedure:

Medicinal herbs like Haridra, Vacha, Yashtimadhu, and Trikatu are ignited, and the patient inhales the medicated fumes alternately through nostrils and mouth.

Indications:

  • Sinusitis (Peenasa)
  • Cough and cold
  • Headache and ear disorders
  • Excess salivation and oral infections
