Gout / Uric Acid Arthritis (Vatarakta)
Gout, known as Vatarakta in Ayurveda, occurs when vitiated Vata interacts with impure Rakta (blood).
This leads to the accumulation of uric acid-like toxins, causing painful inflammation in joints, especially the big toe.
Symptoms:
- Intense burning pain and redness in joints
- Swelling and tenderness
- Pain aggravates at night or with exertion
Ayurvedic Management:
The focus is on Raktashodhana (blood purification) and Vata pacification.
- Virechana (Purgation): Eliminates excess Pitta and Rakta impurities.
- Lepam (Herbal Paste): Local application with Manjishta, Sariva, Nimba, Guduchi.
- Basti Therapy: For balancing Vata and improving circulation.
- Internal Medicines: Kaishora Guggulu, Punarnavadi Kashayam, Vatarakta Chikitsa.
Benefits:
- Reduces inflammation and redness
- Neutralizes toxins in blood
- Restores mobility and comfort
- Prevents recurrence
Prevention:
- Avoid red meat, alcohol, and seafood
- Stay hydrated
- Include bitter vegetables and herbal teas
- Maintain regular detox routines
