Tennis Elbow (Kurpara Sandhigata Vata / Snayugata Vata)
Tennis elbow, or lateral epicondylitis, is caused by overuse or repetitive strain of the forearm muscles. Ayurveda identifies this as Snayugata Vata, where Vata aggravates in tendons and ligaments around the elbow.
Symptoms:
- Pain over outer elbow joint
- Difficulty in lifting objects
- Weak grip strength
Ayurvedic Management:
- Abhyanga: Local oil massage with Murivenna or Kottamchukkadi Thailam.
- Lepam: Application of Karpuradi Choorna or Rasnadi Choorna paste.
- Pichu: Oil-soaked cotton bandage over elbow joint.
- Bandhana: Mild compression with medicated gauze for support.
- Basti: Matra Basti to control systemic Vata.
Benefits:
- Alleviates pain and tenderness
- Promotes healing of tendons
- Improves functional mobility
Prevention:
- Avoid repetitive stress activities
- Warm-up and stretching before sports
- Maintain correct arm ergonomics
