Conjunctivitis (Abhishyanda)

Conjunctivitis, known as Abhishyanda in Ayurveda, is inflammation of the conjunctival membrane caused by vitiation of all three doshas, often dominated by Pitta and Kapha. It can be infectious, allergic, or due to irritants.

Symptoms:

  • Redness and itching in the eyes
  • Watering or sticky discharge
  • Burning or foreign body sensation
  • Mild swelling of eyelids

Ayurvedic Management :

  • Netra Prakshalana (Eye Wash): Washing eyes with Triphala decoction or Chandana water to clear heat and discharge.
  • Anjana (Collyrium): Application of medicated collyrium like Saptamrita Lauha, Haridra Rasakriya.
  • Nasya: Anu Taila to clear head channels.
  • Herbal Medicines: Punarnavadi Kashaya, Patolakaturohinyadi Kashaya, Triphaladi Guggulu.
  • Diet: Avoid spicy and sour foods; include ghee and cool liquids.
