Irritable Bowel Syndrome (Grahani Roga)

Grahani represents the small intestine and its function of digestion and absorption. When Agni becomes irregular (Mandagni or Vishamagni), it causes loose motion, constipation, or alternating patterns – similar to IBS.

Symptoms: 

  • Irregular bowel habits
  • Abdominal pain or bloating
  • Incomplete evacuation
  • Loss of appetite, fatigue

Ayurvedic Management:

  • Deepana-Pachana: Pippali, Chitraka, Trikatu, Mustha to normalize Agni.
  • Grahi (Absorbent) Herbs: Kutaja, Bilva, Nagakesara, Shunti.
  • Takra Kalpana: Medicated buttermilk with jeeraka and mustha.
  • Basti Therapy: For regulating Vata in colon.
  • Internal Medicines: Kutajarishta, Dadimashtaka Churna, Grahani Kapat Ras.
