Derived from “Avi” (steam) and “Kizhi” (bolus), this therapy combines herbal bolus massage with steam fomentation.
It is a Sāmanya Swedana Karma, suitable for Vāta-Kapha disorders. The combination of heat and medicinal herbs promotes Srotoshodhana and reduces Āma accumulation.
Medicated leaves or herbs are tied into a cotton pouch, heated using steam or warm oil, and rhythmically massaged over the body. The heat penetrates deep, softening tissues and expelling toxins.
