Swedana is one of the Pūrva Karma (preparatory) procedures of Panchakarma. It opens Srotas (body channels), liquefies doshas, and drives them toward the gastrointestinal tract for expulsion.
Sweda means “to sweat” — the process of inducing perspiration to expel toxins (Mala).
The body is exposed to heat through steam generated from medicated decoctions (Kashaya), herbs, or fermented liquids like Dhanyamla. Methods include Nadi Sweda, Bashpa Sweda, and Pinda Sweda.
